Facts about The Dark Knight
Wondering why Katie Holmes was not able to reprise her role as Rachel Dawes in the latest Batman? Find out why through some facts about The Dark Knight that I collected from imdb.com.
- Turning down a salary estimated at between $1 million and $2 million (an increase over the roughly $1 million she was believed to have earned for Batman Begins (2005)) Katie Holmes chose not to reprise her role as Rachel Dawes. This was due to what was described as 'scheduling conflicts'.
- Before Maggie Gyllenhaal replaced Katie Holmes in the role of Rachel Dawes, both Rachel McAdams and Emily Blunt were rumored for the part
- Matt Damon was Christopher Nolan's first choice for the role of Harvey Dent but turned it down. Before Aaron Eckhart was cast in the part, other actors considered included Hugh Jackman, Ryan Phillippe, Liev Schreiber and Josh Lucas.
- This is the first Batman film to not have "Batman" in the title
- This is the third film of Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale together after Batman Begins in 2005 and The Prestige in 2006)
- Robin Williams, Lachy Hulme, Paul Bettany, and Adrien Brody all expressed interest for the role of the Joker before Heath Ledger was cast.

The Dark Knight, the fastest film to reach 2000 million dollar
Congratulations to all the casts and crews of The Dark Knight, specially the outstanding performances of lead stars, Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, for being the fastest film to reach 2000 million dollar in just 5 days. Previous record holders, Pirates of Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Spider Man -2 made to 2000 million in 8 days. Since the day it was released (July 18, 2008), the latest batman film has already reached $222,150,806. Truly Dark Knight is the hottest superhero this year or maybe for years to come.
The Dark Knight has the best opening weekend to date
The latest superhero movie The Dark Knight has the best opening weekend to date with the total gross of $158,411,483 in its first week. It leaves Spider-Man 3 behind by almost 8 million in the 2nd place. This makes The Dark Knight as the most successful batman films ever created.
Completing the top 12 are both Hero Films, Indiana Jones 4 and Iron Man, which were also released earlier this year.
Since most of the anticipated films were already released earlier and some are scheduled next year, seems like The Dark Knight would be holding the top spot for quite a while.
